Tucked into the Cotswolds village of Clanfield, alongside country lanes and chocolate-box cottages, the candy-striped umbrellas of the Double Red Duke are easy to spot. This former 16th century Coaching Inn is the third pub renovation by husband and wife hoteliers Georgie and Sam Pearman, who have nurtured quite the hospitality portfolio with this unique hideaway.
As with all renovations undertaken by the Pearman’s, the inn was refurbished to maintain its historic charm, with a trademark contemporary twist to appeal to city-living weekenders. Creating a ‘departure from the everyday’ was a top priority for the designers, in a way that feels warm and welcoming. Upon entering through its wisteria-clad doors, guests can find a rabbit warren of cosy snugs swathed in ruby red and emerald velvet, glass-roof dining areas with studded leather chairs and multiple original fireplaces.
The inn is centered around a critically-acclaimed restaurant and open-flame menu of locally sourced comfort food devised by some of the UK's best chefs. Having being crowned as one of the best gastro-pubs by the British press, the décor of The Double Red Duke is carefully curated to the same high standards.
Sourcing the décor for all 19 bedrooms was a calculated project, as it was important for a bespoke and high-end look to exude from every room, through colours and patterns that do not date easily and furniture & fixtures that are made to last. The Pearman's often return to their most-loved portfolio of British artisans for wallpapers, textiles and paints – including characterful Colefax & Fowler wallpapers in Art Deco prints and repurposed antique furniture. Even the finishing touches - Roberts radios and Bakelite telephones - were commissioned in specific colours. This eclectic mix of décor achieves an informal yet luxurious feel.
Each of the bedrooms are also designed with different themes to provide a fun experience for both new and returning guests. One ‘Pink & Green' family room reveals a cubby-hole of bunkbeds concealed behind a curtain, while the other ‘red' room features an alcove with a patterned tile mosaic. With each jazzy design feature comes a heavy dose of home comfort for that perfect feel of 'home away from home', including plush bedding and roll-top bathtubs paired with luxury brass shower mixers by Samuel Heath.
With considerable time spent cherry-picking the very best British craftsmen for the interiors, Georgie Pearman selected Samuel Heath bath & basin brassware in City Bronze to bring 'rustic chic' to every bedroom. The timeless design of the premium brass fixtures elevate the high-end effect of the interiors and through their superior performance, also assist in creating a relaxing guest experience.

"I was keen to work with a British supplier and love the fact that all your pieces are still handmade out of your factory in Birmingham, so close to the Cotswolds and The Double Red Duke. By choosing Samuel Heath, I know that I can trust in the quality. Fairfield and Style Moderne brassware is beautifully designed and evokes a traditional look, which sits perfectly in our 16th Century coaching inn." - Georgie Pearman
